Cheap 45 Colt Ammo!
The 45 Colt cartridge is an exciting piece of ammunition, but finding it cheap, or even finding it at all proved incredibly difficult. When I was shopping for my wife’s first revolver, I wanted something that she can point and shoot without having to worry about being too accurate. Together we found a great revolver that chambered a .410 shotgun shell which shot some amazing defence disk and bb combinations that would accomplish the objective. After satisfying her needs, I enjoyed the fact that it also chambered the 45 Colt, or more commonly known as the 45 Long Colt.
Before then I really wasn’t too familiar with the .45 Colt, but I knew I did enjoy some Colt 45 back in my youth, and that close connotation was enough to get me excited. But a little history reveals that the .45 Long Colt was developed by Colt Patent Firearms Manufacturing Company in Hartford Connecticut and Bridgeport’s Union Metallic Cartridge Company in 1872 for the Colt Single Action Army revolver. The United States army adopted the .45 cartridge in 1873 replacing the .44-40 Winchester, and enjoyed active service for 19 years until the .38 Long Colt replaced it in 1892.
Today’s .45 Long Colts are modernized with smokeless powder and even jacketed hollow point critical defense bullets, though you can also find reloaded full metal jacket 45 Colts at real cheap prices, and if you’re into Cowboy Action Shooting, you can find plenty of cheap Lead Flat Nose cartridges.
When I first started shopping retail for the 45 Long Colt, I immediately noticed twomajor problems: 1, I had difficulty finding anyone who stocked them, and 2, when they had them, they were the expensive defensive rounds, or the inappropriately expensive exposed lead target rounds. So I went online and partnered with a great site with nice options for cheap 45 Long Colt Ammo!
The Military Ballistics Reloaded 250 Grain Full Metal Jacket Flat Nose I was pleased to find these kickass bad-boys online after searching forever for an economical solution. Not only was I not able to find any 45 Colt rounds for target practice, but when I did they were almost $1.00 a round. These are a good 40% off, and they are full metal jacket. They are freshly loaded with boxer primed new brass and 250 grain full metal jacket flat nose bullets. They sport a muzzle velocity of 800 fps and muzzle energy of 355 ft lbs.
Hornady Critical Defense Jacketed Hollow Point If you’re looking for cheap defensive 45 Colt ammo, the Hornady Flext Tip Technology Jacketed Hollow Point LEVERevolution hosts a 225 grain bullet with boxer primed new brass casing and an Elastomer Flex Tip that improves the ballistic coefficient for flatter trajectories and a more aggressive terminal performance with a 960 fps muzzle velocity. I enjoy putting these through my wife’s revolver the most. I find them to be the most accurate and the most devastating, but also the most expensive. Even when finding them cheaper online, it’s best to reserve them for defensive purposes. Though, I encourage you to give at least a few of these a try at the range to get a full appreciation for their performance.
Sellier & Bellot 45 Long Colt Cowboy Rounds Lead Flat Nose If you’re into Cowboy then you can get a great deal on these guys without having to buy too much bulk. I originally considered Cowboy rounds for the 45 Colt revolver, but then I read that the exposed lead would damage the rifling and would cost me more in the long run. These cartridges are specifically made for classic or replica firearms that can properly chamber them, but these selections come at a great price. The quality is great, they are boxer primed new brass, 250 grain lead flat nose bullet, a muzzle velocity of 708 fps and a muzzle velocity of 276 ft lbs.
The top will help guide you on getting started with some good cheap 45 Colt ammo choices. Below are several more at some of the best prices online. I like luckygunner.com, and buying ammo online makes good sense if you’re getting at least 3 cases – for me at least, that’s when the shipping costs get canceled out over the tax savings and more importantly, the cost per round savings!
